Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Foodographer Studios – before you even need to ask.
About the Studio
Where is the studio located?
Our studio is based in Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty. We work with food and beverage brands across New Zealand and worldwide – all you need to do is courier your products to us and we take care of everything else.
Can I visit the studio?
Our studio is a working production space, so we don’t offer client visits at this stage. Everything is handled remotely – you send your products to us, we take care of the rest, and your finished images are delivered digitally within 8–10 days of your shoot day.
Getting Started
How quickly can I get my first shoot booked?
This varies depending on our current schedule and availability. Once you get in touch we’ll confirm our next available shoot dates and work out a timeline that suits your brand. Bear in mind that products need to arrive at our studio 7–14 days before your shoot day depending on your package, so it’s worth getting in touch as early as possible to secure your preferred dates.
What do I need to prepare before my first shoot?
Not much – that’s the point. Once you’re booked in we’ll send you a brief to complete covering your brand, your products, and any styling preferences or references you have. If you already have brand guidelines or a mood board, have those ready to share. Beyond that, your main job is to get your products to our Tauranga studio on time. We take care of everything else from there.
The Process
How long does the whole process take from signing up to receiving images?
It depends on our current availability and how quickly your products can reach us – but from your first shoot day, your finished images are delivered within 8–10 days. Once you get in touch we’ll confirm available shoot dates and map out a clear timeline so you know exactly what to expect from the start.
Do I need to be involved on shoot day?
Not at all – that’s one of the best things about working with us. Once your products are with us and pre-production planning is complete, shoot day is entirely handled by us. You get on with running your business while we take care of everything in the studio. Your finished images will be with you within 8–10 days.
Do you handle the styling yourself?
Yes – creative direction and professional styling are handled by us as part of every package. Props, surfaces, and styling decisions are all taken care of in our studio. For more complex shoots that require specialist styling, we can bring in a professional food stylist – this would be discussed during pre-production planning and priced accordingly.
How should I package my products for courier?
Package your products carefully to ensure they arrive in perfect condition – we’ll confirm exactly what to send and any specific packaging requirements during pre-production planning. If you’d like your products returned after the shoot, simply include a prepaid return courier label in your parcel and we’ll send everything back to you once the shoot is complete.
Do you offer rush turnarounds?
Rush turnarounds for Foundation Shoots and Brand Asset Shoots are sometimes possible depending on our current schedule – get in touch and we’ll let you know what we can do. An additional fee applies.
The Images
What file formats and resolutions do you deliver?
All images are delivered as high resolution JPGs, optimised and ready to use across your social media channels and online marketing. If you need images in a specific format or resolution for other uses, get in touch and we’ll work out what’s needed.
The Retainer
Why a 12-week commitment rather than monthly?
Consistency is what makes professional content work – and three full cycles is the minimum time needed to see real results. It gives your brand enough runway to build a recognisable visual presence, allows us to refine the creative direction across cycles so every shoot gets better, and gives social media algorithms enough consistent content to start working in your favour. One cycle of professional imagery is a great start – but three cycles of consistent, on-brand content showing up week after week is where brands start to look truly established.
What happens after my 12 weeks?
After your initial 12-week commitment you have three options – recommit to another 12 weeks at the same rate, continue on flexible 4-week cycles at the ongoing rate, or simply leave with no further obligation. The choice is entirely yours. If you continue on flexible 4-week cycles, simply give us 30 days notice before your next scheduled shoot to cancel.
Can I pause my retainer?
Yes – we understand that things don’t always go to plan. You can pause your retainer once per 12-week commitment for a maximum of one cycle, provided you give us at least 14 days notice before your scheduled shoot day. Once the pause period is over your retainer simply picks up where it left off and continues as normal.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my package?
Yes – after your initial 12-week commitment you’re free to move to a different package. Whether you want to scale up to more content or step back to a more manageable schedule, the choice is entirely yours. Just let us know before your next commitment period begins and we’ll get everything set up.
Working Together
Do you work with brands outside New Zealand?
Absolutely – we work with food and beverage brands across New Zealand and worldwide. Our studio is based in Tauranga but location is no barrier. Simply get your products to us and we take care of everything else from there. If you’re based outside New Zealand, get in touch and we’ll talk through the logistics together.
What’s the difference between the Foundation Shoot and the retainer packages?
The Foundation Shoot is a one-off studio session – one product, six images, no ongoing commitment. It’s the perfect starting point if you want to experience working with us before committing to anything bigger. Our content retainer packages are a structured, repeatable system that keeps your brand stocked with professional imagery every 4 weeks – designed for brands that are ready to show up consistently on social media and across their marketing. Not sure which is right for you? Take our quick quiz and we’ll point you in the right direction.
